The Virginia Beach Development Authority has awarded an APZ-1 Economic Development Investment Program grant in the amount of $110,000 to STIHL Inc. as a result of their planned capital investments in The International Industrial Center (formerly Lillian Vernon). Improvements to the facility, located within the YesOceana footprint, will serve to attract new businesses to Virginia Beach and further stimulate the creation of jobs in the city.
STIHL Inc., manufacturer of the nation’s number one selling brand of gasoline powered handheld outdoor power equipment*, announced plans to invest more than $2.7 million dollars in capital improvements to The International Industrial Center at 2600 International Parkway in Virginia Beach. The company, that has owned the 871,000-square-foot facility since 2012, plans to make significant improvements over the next 48 months in order to expand its own operations as well as attract new tenants. The property is leased and managed by JLL.
“STIHL Inc. is a global manufacturing leader, and we are proud to be the corporate headquarters location for their U.S. operations,” said Virginia Beach Economic Development Director Warren D. Harris. “STIHL has tremendous impact on our local community bringing hundreds of jobs to the area as well supporting local businesses. In fact, STIHL products are only sold in small businesses because STIHL believes in local.”
Improvements to the facility will include a complete overhaul of the HVAC system with a more energy efficient system. The 108,000-square-foot mezzanine will be removed to provide more usable warehouse space. Multiple loading dock doors will also be installed to improve shipping and receiving for the tenants, and office space will be renovated for an existing tenant as well as for STIHL Inc.
